Request for Proposals – 227 LeClaire St. Redevelopment (former Howard Johnson site)

The Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP) is now accepting proposals regarding the riverfront redevelopment opportunity at 227 LeClaire St. in Davenport, Iowa.

227 LeClaire Street, known as the former Howard Johnson hotel site, is located at a key eastern gateway to downtown Davenport that boasts unmatched riverfront views, visibility, and the opportunity to create an iconic addition to the Davenport skyline.  DDP, a non-profit agency, is seeking a private developer to demolish and redevelop the former hotel site.

DDP is leading the effort to select a private developer to ultimately own and develop the property for its highest and best use.  With over $124M in construction slated downtown over the next two years, this strategic site is ripe for rebirth.  Creativity and big ideas are welcome!

Red, White, & Boom Fireworks Rescheduled for Labor Day

The Red, White & Boom! fireworks have been rescheduled for Labor Day, Monday, September 1,2014, starting promptly at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks will be shot from a barge in the Mississippi River between Davenport and Rock Island.

Family activities will start at 6:00 p.m. in Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport and Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island. Both riverfronts will feature additional publicly accessible viewing areas.

The festival’s original date of July 3 was cancelled due to flooding of the Mississippi River. “We’re thrilled to give the Quad Cities another opportunity to enjoy the largest fireworks show in the region,” said Ken Croken, Chairman, Red, White & Boom Committee. “The Red, White & Boom! Committee has been hard at work preparing for this, and we’re excited to make Labor Day even more special for the community this year.”

Red, White & Boom! is generously hosted by Genesis Health System and Riverboat Development Authority, and presented by the Downtown Davenport Partnership, a division of the Quad Cities Chamber, and Rock Island Parks & Recreation.

Red, White, and Boom Cancelled Due to High River Levels

The Red, White & Boom! committee announced today that the 2014 Red, White & Boom, scheduled for Thursday, July 3, has been cancelled.

“One of the spectacular things about Red, White & Boom! is our ability to put on a top-notch fireworks show over the Mississippi River,” says Kyle Carter, Executive Director, Downtown Davenport Partnership. “In this case however, due to flooding, we’re not able to produce a quality show that would meet the expectations of our community.”

Although preliminary approval was given to shoot the fireworks from Centennial Bridge, the organization was later notified by its fireworks vendor that it could not safely set up the show from the bridge due to its size and caliber.

“Safety, flooding, and quality were our primary concerns in making this decision,” said Carter. “The committee will be considering our future options.”
